For the longest time, I used nothing but the black "Stiffo" nylon Jazz IIIs. I liked the small size and sharp tip, but I especially liked the minimal pick attack it added to the sound (I always preferred a clearer tone, even though I mostly play metal). I get curious about other Jazz III picks though, so over time I've tried the Ultex (sounds way too clicky/chirpy), JD JazzTone 205 (great sound/feel but low durability), PrimeTone (not as nice as JazzTone and still low durability). Again, these are my thoughts on these picks for playing with distortion - for cleaner stuff, it obviously changes. These Pitch Black Tortex Jazz picks have taken over as my usual pick for metal now. Compared to the black stiffo, this one seems to strike strings with more authority, likely because it is a tad stiffer (i'm using the 1mm). The pick attack is more aggressive - it tends to have a scratchier sound due to the material, but with a little practice in picking angles this can be controlled, and it sounds great for metal. There is a tiny bit of that chirpiness that turned me away from the Ultex Jazz IIIs, but in this case it's character-adding rather than an earsore. The playing feel takes a bit of getting used to if you're coming from the nylon ones, as the release isn't quite as instantaneous (because the material doesn't glide off the strings as easily, I think), but it isn't too different. Durability seems to be on par with the black nylons.
Highly recommended if you're a fan of the nylon Jazz IIIs and like to play aggressive stuff.

.I NEVER write reviews , but after seeing these plectrums perform to top notch sound anyone can believe the things I say. But only a man can change the mind if they're is silence. Everyday the plectrums are in my hand because after wards of playing for 12,000 hours anyone can be a genius musician such as Tyler Swift who also loves cats.

.I got these picks because I love the Jazz III size and the feel of tortex. In my mind, the .73 mm size is perfect for just about anything. It is thick enough to handle alternate picking very well, but is also thin enough to have some flexibility for strumming. These picks last quite a while and the package of 12 will last you quite a long time. These and the Ultex Jazz III's are all I use.

.I like the size and hardness of these - great for small fingered fella's - easier to navigate and they push the strings pretty well too strumming and flatpicking.

.Definitely my pick of preference!

.Great picks. If you like smaller jazz picks, then these are the best. They have a lot of different sizes, so you can get them as thin or as heavy as you want. I've tried the nylon and ultex jazz picks, but I like the tortex feel a lot better.

.I just wanted to see if I might like it. I've been playing the Dunlop Tortex 1.0mm Sharps for years, and wanted to give these a try. Not enough surface area for thumb harmonics, pick scrapes etc. I suppose it's all what you get used to, and I can't say I gave these a fair run. It just immediately felt too small.

.For picking a mandolin, I love the shape and feel of the tortex Jazz3. It offers just enogh flex to bound off each string, ready to attack the next note. It is a little frustrating that the logo wears off so quickly, because I change picks for different sounds, and most of them are black, so telling the difference gets tough.

.Guitar picks are unique in that you can regularly experiment with different types and styles to determine what works best for you without spending too much money. You might be looking for a certain sound, a particular feel or, in some cases I suppose, a particular look. In the end, we all end up finding something that works for us, and in my case I've settled on the Tortex Pitch Black jazz picks. I've tried nearly every jazz pick on the market," and I keep coming back to the Pitch Black in 1.14 mm. ""Feel"" is difficult to describe"," but these little dynamos are extremely comfortable to play; they almost feel ""warm"" in your fingers", and maintaining a proper grip isn't an issue - even under the most trying of circumstances. Best of all, they provide a smooth and even string release without that annoying click that you get with some of the hard plastic jazz picks. Try some for yourself and see what you think!

.Have tried what seems like HUNDREDS of picks but this one right here is the gem! Tried out Dunlop's Jazz III's but and liked the shape and point but the material are slippery plastic. The Dunlop Jazz Tortex are made out of a more rubbery plastic which is much more comfortable and doesn't slip out of your hand! Absolutely superb.
