I have the same comments as others. First, these string are much easier to play than the stock strings. They do, however, have a somewhat lower sound output. I can live with that, as the sound is balanced. The real problem is with the wire wound D and G strings. They both show sign of wear after only a few hours of playing. This is especially true of the G string, where the "round" wound is now "flat", and is flaking off at every fret that I use. I expect that the G string will fail very soon.

.I was asked to review this product by Custom Guitar's Friend's customer service representative, so I am complying.First, let me make one point very clear. I was searching for a string set that would produce a pleasant tone with an experimental instrument I'd constructed using a peculiar choice of top wood. This Martin, M630 string set gave the instrument a sound reminiscent of a "jazzy", Spanish guitar, which very much took me by surprise, given that I'd given up all hope of producing a tone that was that good using other options, including metal strings, with this choice of top wood. I'd have given this set a "4.5" overall rating, were it not for three factors:1. The set uses wound third and fourth strings. The windings on both began to separate soon after I mounted the strings. The separation happened well away from the nut. I was only testing the instrument, and was playing another as my "usual" while writing some music, so this failure of both strings was quite surprising and unprecedented in my experience with musical strings. This is the dominant factor, by far, in rating them substantially less than "5.0".2. The strings feel very comfortable when played, but at the price of volume. This lower tension may well be a core factor related to the the very reason why I perceived that they sounded so good with this instrument, so I may be off-base by finding any fault in this regard. Lower tension produces less potential for unwanted, higher frequency harmonics. The improvement in tone seemed most relevant to the trebles, which had caused problems with other sets. I merely believe that a little more tension could produce an even better compromise between tone and volume.3. Martin Strings ignored my e-mail regarding the rapid demise of the wound strings.With that said, if one can believe that the third and fourth wound strings failed due to some unprecedented defect unique to this set, I would seriously consider using this set as my preferred choice for baritone ukuleles. Prior to this set, Hilo baritone strings were my "go to" option for baritone scale instruments that needed a sweeter tone, but the Martin M630 string set provides a little more volume and suggests the sound of a classical, Spanish guitar. (Hilo strings are still a nice option, particularly for Hawaiian or jazz applications, but your instrument needs to be built for volume or amplified to accommodate the lower tension of their standard strings and the lower volume they produce.)I'd like to combine the fluorocarbon first and second strings from this set (or possibly from Aquila's newly formulated baritone ukulele strings) with silk and steel wound third and fourth strings (probably 020W and 026W), given that I changed out the failed third and fourth strings from the Martin M630 set with "makeshift" replacements from single string purchases from other vendors that I had bought as spares. The replacement Daniel Mari "D" string with a GHS S20 wound silk and steel string as the "G" (third string) produced another nice combination, with the the silk and steel wound string truly providing some remarkable volume and tone, after it had stretched for a few days and overcome the "tone bending" susceptibility of silk and steel strings when they are fretted while freshly mounted.IMPORTANT NOTE: Custom Guitar's Friend has notified me that they are going to send a replacement set of M630 strings following my complaint regarding the failure of the Martin wound strings in this set. (I wish that I could experiment more with the single string options in the combinations that I have described through purchases from Custom Guitar's Friend of single strings in unique sets, which I might name and re-use under my account in the future.)

.Would not recommend. By the time the strings start to stay in tune, they'll start to break, so you can't even justify buying them for one show (I don't know why you'd do that anyway, but...humans).
Yes, these strings sound good, and feel good to play on. The only issue is that you'll only be playing on them for about a week or two (or just about until the strings' pitch starts to settle) until the third and fourth wound strings start to come apart on the second and third frets, which almost everyone else has said. This leads to slack in the strings, which leads to them buzzing against the lower frets. And, since on baritone, 3rd string, 2nd fret is used in many popular chords, this is a major issue.

.I like the sound of Martin baritone ukulele strings. I like them so much I bought 10 sets when they were on sale. They by far sound better than other brands I have used. Unfortunately I'm having the same problem with the third string that others have written about. The aluminum winding on the third string has failed after just 10 hours of play. It broke and started to unwind at the second and third fret. This has been an ongoing problem, so it was not due to one defective string. I have not had this problem with other brands.

.The first set of bari uke strings I bought was this set. I tried a bunch of other strings and none of them compared, tone-wise to these. I returned to these strings and once again loved the tone and sustain of the unwound strings, but I noticed that the G is now wound in aluminum. Within one or two weeks, the winding cracked and separated at the second fret where I frequently play when strumming a D chord. The D string is fine.I don't play hard at all and am very disappointed that these strings are now no longer durable enough to stand up to my playing. I will not buy them again until they improve their winding.

I love the sound of these strings. Best sounding of any I have tried, and so I ordered two more sets. but ... the "G" string has failed 3 times in a row!!. What a disappointment. The first set I tried "sold" me on Martin Strings. I absolutely LOVE the sound, but then the "G" string began to fail at the 2nd fret wire. Winding separated and slowly widened off the fret wire, and became "twangy". So, I replaced the "G" string with one from another set, and it promptly failed at the same spot, the 2nd fret wire. I checked ny fret wire - it is not "sharp" or damaged. I changed the whole set again. And, by gosh, in less than an hour, the "G" string failed - began separating at the same position - for the moment, it sounds OK, and I will continue to use it for a while.

Until Martin figures this out and does something about it, no more Martin strings!!! Unfortunate, because they sound WONDERFUL.

.The strings unwound on the ends while being strung, and were a bit too thin but when knotted twice they were able to be strung onto the instrument. They sounded good, very nice, but seemed to go out of tune more easily than the strings that were on it, although, could just be the instrument. They broke after only three or four weeks of being on the ukulele despite the fact I don't play particularly hard and during that time I did not play very much. The wound strings broke first and then the nylon ones broke soon after that.

.Great sounding baritone ukulele strings! I've tried both D'Addario and Aquila baritone strings on my Kala baritone uke and these are my favorites. Good sustain, they stay in tune (after a day or so) and have a balanced sound. They also seem a little lighter gauge which makes them easier to play. Highly recommended!
